more about me

I'm Shawn M. Schmitt, a writer/editor/journalist living and writing in Cape Coral, Florida.

I'm currently a Deputy Editor for Informa, a global publishing firm headquartered in London.

For two decades I've written and edited freelance and full time for various newspapers, magazines, newsletters, online publications and broadcast media. I have hosted and produced visual and audio podcasts, as well as a variety of other multimedia content.

I have extensive experience writing about the health-care industry, and I'm strongly interested in design and architecture.

A spirited, creative journalist, I reported from the White House Rose Garden for Counseling Today during President Clinton's tenure, met with medical device experts in Costa Rica, traveled the US to get the scoop on Medicare funding for DecisionHealth, traveled the nation to get the scoop on Medicare funding for DecisionHealth, and wrote about the proliferation of nuclear weapons for Global Security Newswire.

I doggedly pursue interview sources and have managed countless deadlines to deliver stories that successfully communicate to and inform readers.

I am trained in Associated Press style, and I am comfortable using both PC and Macintosh platforms.

I hold a Master of Arts in Communication: Journalism and Public Affairs from American University in Washington, D.C. (2004), and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications from Point Park University in Pittsburgh (1997).
